Spider Diagrams
Brooch: Fig. 55.- An Acoustic Seta, 2013
Sterling silver, 18k yellow gold, antique ivory veneer, gold leaf, stainless steel, cat's whisker.
The design of the brooch was translated from a diagram of a spider's sound-sensing hair - an ear, if you will. As the diagram was from 1928, I tried to reference the period with the materials and method of manufacture I used; I was aiming at Arts Crafts movement, but the brooch appears to have some Japanese influence (which is still nicely appropriate).
The reverse of the brooch, hand-engraved with the inscription: FIG. 55.- AN ACOUSTIC SETA
From 'The Biology of Spiders', Theodore H Savory, Sidgewick and Jackson, 1928. pp 88.
